10th RMLNLU International Legal Essay Competition (RILEC) Conference, 2023, in collaboration with Nishith Desai Associates. – The RMLNLU Law Review Blog

The Journal Committee (“Committee”) at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow (“RMLNLU”), in collaboration with Nishith Desai Associates, organized the 10th edition of the RMLNLU International Legal Essay Competition and Conference on Intellectual Property Rights and Technology Law (“RILEC”). The Conference and Workshop was conducted on 7th April, 2023.

This year the Committee invited submissions from authors on the topic – “IPR and Technology Law”. The sub-themes for the competition included topics like Intellectual Property theft, Quantum computing and Intellectual Property Rights, Copyright issues pertaining to live streaming of gameplays, online reviews, and walkthroughs, Technology transfer and Intellectual Property, No specialized Intellectual Property courts in India and Metaverse and Intellectual Property Rights.

All entries were judged and ranked by judges from Nishith Desai Associates and the Journal Committee. After jointly conducting several rounds of review with Nitish Desai Associates, three papers were selected to be presented at the conference.

The following are the top three entries of this year’s edition of the RMLNLU International Legal Essay Writing Competition, in their respective order of standing:

  1. winner:’Live Streaming of Video Games: Demystifying the Legal Identity of the Game Streamer under Copyright Regime’ by Kinjal Keya and Aditya Pratap Singh.
  2. Runners up: ‘Interaction between Intellectual Property Rights and Artificial Intelligence: A Tussle between Competing Claims for Copyright in AI works‘ by Varsha Sharma.
  3. Second Runners up: ‘Quantum Computing and Intellectual Property Rights- A two-way analysis‘ by Prakriti Singh and Yash Arjariya.
